Politics Of The Heart
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._N._Taber
Politics is in the business of taking on questions dividing societies world-wide if relatively rarely managing to answer or unite.[In a multicultural society, the questions, divisions and consequences of failure come even thicker and faster?]
Meanwhile, the human heart often finds itself on much the same field of play...
POLITICS OF THE HEART
Some jeered when you came out
and told the world you’re gay;
to my great shame, I took their part
let ignorance win the day
For weeks, I implored my alter ego
to rise above a pillow’s tears,
let me shout how I have loved you
though hid behind my fears
Some were scornful when I came out
and told the world I’m gay;
to my surprise and pride, I cared not,
only that truth had won the day
It was a while before I dared face you,
confess the hypocrite I’d been,
how I longed to hold and kiss you,
held back ’cause taught obscene
Your heart but took its cue from mine
and rushed straight in…
to dry my tears with spring sunshine,
absolve them with its passion
Some still jeer at a love much derided,
harsh words spoken…
the world’s churches openly divided
on blessing gay men and women
Scarier still, the rogue heart’s ambition
to be applauded casting that first stone
